Gospel According to John, 13,31-33-34-35
Jesus said to his disciples: "I give you a new commandment: Love each other. As I have loved you, you should love each other. " (Jn 13,34).-------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------A. BIGCUORE´S REFLECTION: Here it is not a simple human love. The Old Testament, the Book of Leviticus, 18: "Love your neighbor as yourself. I am Yahweh 19.Observem my statutes."(1)
Jesus does not speak of love in chronological time. He opens a new love which the Greeks call agape love. He exhorts his disciples to love as He loves !!! That is, a TOTALLY FREE LOVE, which does not require anything in return !. The love that came to the ultimate consequences: he gave us his life for our sins by dying on a cross of wood!
In baptism we receive the lining of the Holy Spirit of God, and that God's love is what drives us toward the "other." There is no individualist love. Love, by its very nature, requires the ENCOUNTER with the "other." This is the ONLY true love! Pure, fraternal, that brings true JOY to our hearts. I love sharing. Love that makes us all brothers by the same Spirit.
In John 15, 12, Jesus reaffirms the above said, "My command is this: love each other as I have loved you. 13.Not there LOVE greater than giving one's life for his friends. "It was clear what kind of love, we Christians must cultivate: brotherly love, the love of Jesus. HOW TO LOVE JESUS loved us, is the secret to be happy, even in this world!
A holy and happy Sunday to all! Through the intercession of our Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus, descend upon you, your family, your job, your study, the blessing of God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Amen !.
