                                 Announcement of the Gospel (Lk 23,35-43)

 At that time, the chiefs mocked Jesus, saying, "He saved others. Save yourself, if indeed you are the Christ of God, the Chosen One! "The soldiers also mocked him; Came to him, offered him vinegar, and said, "If you are the king of the Jews, save thyself!"Above him was a sign: "This is the King of the Jews."One of the crucified evildoers insulted him, saying, "Are not you the Christ? Save yourself and us! "

But the other rebuked him, saying, "Do you not even fear God, you who suffer the same condemnation? For us, it is fair, because we are getting what we deserve; But he did nothing wrong. " And he added: "Jesus, remember me, when you enter your kingdom." Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, you will still be with me in Paradise today."


A. BIGCUORE'S REFLECTION: The Gospel on the screen shows two aspects: the image of the failed Christ, crucified between two criminals. It should be pointed out that death on the cross in the time of Jesus was a vile, abominable act, that a criminal could be attacked!

Jesus before two very different people: on the one hand the so-called evil thief who mocks Jesus, saying: "ARE YOU NOT THE CHRIST? SAVE YOURSELF AND OURSELVES!"On the other hand, the so-called good thief, in an odd sensibility and perception, understands that the Master was an exceptional person, out of character, indeed the Son of God and asks him:


         "JESUS, REMEMBER ME, WHEN YOU COME IN YOUR REIGN."
 The Jews in the time of Jesus were expecting a Messiah who would be born into a golden cradle and be the "King" of Israel; A mighty king; Wrapped in gold; And to live in a palace of great pomp to free them from the yoke of the Roman Empire.

But, they were disappointed with Jesus !. When this shows them a very different face from what they (Jews) imagined. The Master preached and exercised the true LOVE. Love compassion; Love mercy (see parable of the prodigal son), and when he expressed his solidarity with Mary Magdalene and also for the hundreds of miracles and signs that he did.

My Kingdom IS NOT of this world !. Says the Master in another passage. His Kingdom is a kingdom of mercy; Of solidarity; Of sharing, in fact, totally made of DONATION, above all, to those who suffer the most in any society, even in today's time, 2.016.

And the most marvelous is when the Master shows his sense of FORGIVENESS to his tormentors when, on the cross, he says: "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do" (Lk 23:34).Forgiveness and Reconciliation, this is the binomial that should guide the life of every Christian, especially in today's world, so lacking in LOVE and FORGIVENESS!Let it come down upon You and all your family, the Blessing of God Almighty: FATHER, SON, AND HOLY SPIRIT. Amen!
