Gospel - Mark 10,35-45
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah.
Jesus Christ came to serve, Christ came to give his life. Jesus Christ came to save, long live Christ, the living Christ! (Mc 10.45)

Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Mark.

35 And they came to Jesus, James and John, the sons of Zebedee, and said to him, "Master, we want you to give us whatever we ask of you."
36 He asked, "What do you want me to do to you?"
37 They answered, "Grant that we may sit in your glory, one at your right hand and one at your left."

38 "You do not know what you ask for," Jesus replied. "Can you drink the cup I am going to drink, or be baptized in the baptism in which I am going to be baptized?"
"We can," they said. Jesus continued: "You shall drink the cup that I shall drink, and you shall be baptized into the baptism into which I am to be baptized.
40 But as for sitting on my right hand or on my left, it is not up to me: the place belongs to those to whom it is intended. "

41 When the ten heard this, they began to be angry with James and John.
42 Jesus called them and gave them this lesson: "You know that those who are considered rulers of the nations rule over them, and their stewards have power over them.
43 But it shall not be so among you: Whosoever will be great among you, let him be your servant;
44 and whoever among you wishes to be first, be a slave to all.
45 For the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life in redemption for many. "
The Word of Salvation (1)

A. BIGCUORE´S REFLECTION. The present Gospel brings us to two very different dimensions. The human dimension, the two sons of Zebedee wanted to fix a "little mouth" in the Kingdom of Heaven, and for this, they asked for the intermediation of the Master Jesus. To which He answers by saying:

"40 As for sitting on my right hand or on my left, it is not up to me: the place belongs to those to whom it is intended."

In the text on canvas, the word chalice means suffering and the word baptism to which Jesus refers is the baptism of blood, that is, all of its "via crucis" until the consummation on the cross.
The two disciples John and James were brave and at least dared to ask the Master what they wanted. They were thinking like human beings, selfish and individualistic. The other ten (10) also wanted this "little mouth" but hid and were represented by the two bravest.

Bringing for today's times, we see in the political area mainly how many opportunistic people who want to enter the COMFORT ZONE, of the National Congress, just to gain the blessings of power. Use the people and DO NOT SERVE THE PEOPLE!

In the spiritual dimension, Jesus tells them of his passion and death. But the disciples still had dull intelligence and did not understand the true meaning of salvation that the Master came to fulfill in this world. The "token" came to fall completely only at Pentecost.

In this and today, we Christians must keep in mind that in order to gain eternal life we must "lose" it, as the Master Jesus says, that is, it is imperative to incarnate the Discipleship of Jesus, which is presupposed in breaking with our SELF-EGOISM and INDIVIDUALISM, and to realize that we are here in this world to SERVE and not to use ourselves for our own benefit.

In our communities, especially in pastoral care, we see so many people who are attached to the charge, as if it were a guarantee of salvation. How many gossip, how many "mimi mis", how much comfort and how many "caciques" just wanting to command and not SERVE as the Master teaches us.

Let us therefore reflect on this text and try to make our examination of conscience.

QUESTIONS TO REFLECT IN GROUP:

How am I working in my community?

Am I just concerned about holding "charges"?

Am I worried about "appearing" for the Father? Or serve the Community?

What have I done for the salvation of souls for God?

Have everyone a happy and holy Sunday. May it come down upon You and all your family and friends, the blessing of God, rich in Mercy, He who is + Father, Son + and Holy Spirit +, amen! Grace and peace in the hearts!
