Scenario: JESUS, stands on the other side of Lake Tiberias, and his disciples go to meet him. As a good pedagogue he is, he teaches them the true and only way to reach full happiness. They go to the tasting of the bread material. They understood nothing of the true meaning of the Bread that came down from heaven.
The Master gives a hard time to his disciples, saying, "Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me not because you have seen signs, but because you have eaten and have been satisfied. Strive not for the food that is lost, but for the food that endureth unto eternal life, which the Son of Man shall give you. For this is whom the Father has marked with his seal "(Jn 6: 26-27).
In John 6, verses 35, we read: "Jesus said," I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE. Whoever comes to me will no longer hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst. I already said: you saw me and you did not believe me. All those whom the Father gives me will come to me. And I will never reject him who comes to me, for I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but to do the will of him who sent me. "
"This is the will of my Father: that every man who sees the Son and believes in him, has ETERNAL LIFE, and I will RUSSIVE him at the last day." (1)
A. BIGCUORE´S COMMENTARY: In this same chapter, verses before, Jesus had done the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves, in a prefiguration of the Holy Eucharist, which later, in the Lava Feet, He would establish it as a permanent sacrament of his unique and primitive Church.
The disciples had a closed mind. They were not able to understand the depth of the words of the Master Jesus, when He said that He was the true Bread that satisfies hunger for ever! Whoever believes in Him will never thirst again!
This is deep! My brothers and sisters in Christ! That is why, more than 2,000 years ago, the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, the greatest of all the sacraments, is repeated daily.
In John 15: 5, He says, "I am the vine, and you are the branches. Whoever is united to Me, and I in him, will bear much fruit, because WITHOUT ME you can do nothing. " ( 2 ). (my emphasis).
We need every day, under penalty of temptation, to be in perfect harmony with Jesus and his word. We must stop murmuring and take ATTITUDE from the encounter with the most frail brothers. Practice charity; give alms; fasting, etc.
And to abide in Him, we can not be in sin. He left us the remedy of the Sacrament of Confession or Reconciliation. We are weak creatures and without the mercy of God, we would all be doomed. We need the sap of Jesus (the new wine) as well as the plant to germinate and bear fruit, it needs the sun, the oxygen and the water.
The FULL happiness to which every human soul aspires, only in eternity, if we die in the grace of God, we can enjoy it. While we are here, as the late Padre LJ, of the New Song, says, we need the INNER HEALING, of the RESTORATION of the human being in its dimensions: spiritual, physical and psychic (emotional).
He says in his book, "Heal Your Heart," page 31: "It is not possible to experience inner healing if we continue to cultivate sin in our hearts. I would say we can not even understand what inner healing is if our heart is filled with sin. " (3) (Loiola Publishing, 15th edition).
We need to feed DAILY from the word of God (Divine Teaching), the prayerful reading of the word and above all from the sacraments of Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist, so that we can walk in the right direction, in the way God has indicated us, when His Son Jesus , here was in human form, to DIVINIZE our humanity.
By doing so, we are GROWING IN FAITH and good works! This is what God the Father, in the person of his Son Jesus Christ and for the ever glorious intercession of his Blessed Mother, wants from all of us Christians!
May God the Heavenly Father, in the name of his Son Jesus Christ, pour upon each one of us his much-needed blessings! Amen!
