                                   Gospel According to Matthew, 10, 26-33


At that time Jesus said to his apostles, "Do not be afraid of men, for there is nothing hidden that is not revealed, and there is nothing hidden that is not known. What I say to you in the darkness say it in the light of day; What you listen to by the ear, proclaim it on the roofs! Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but they can not kill the soul!

On the contrary, fear the one who can destroy soul and body in hell! Are not two sparrows sold for a few coins? Yet none of them fall to the ground without the consent of your Father. As for you, even the hairs of your head are numbered. Do not be afraid! You are worth more than many sparrows.

Therefore whosoever shall declare himself for me before men, I will also declare myself for him before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. (1)

A. BIGCUORE´S REFLECTION: Shortly before verses 26 33, in the same chapter, Jesus gives his advice to the Disciples, telling them to "go first to the lost sheep of Israel."
The Master further recommends: "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body, but can not kill the soul."

Everyone who decides for Jesus and his gospel must be aware that he will suffer persecution, misunderstanding, slander, etc., because the disciple is not greater than the Master. They persecuted Me and they persecuted you also.

BUT, LOVE WINS FEAR! Therefore, we Christians should not be afraid to announce Jesus, because the reward that will come from this attitude is much greater than any kind of fear.

As the great theologian PE.Bertolini says, "the disciples should not be afraid, because the mission is based on truth, which exposes every lie of a social system that does not show the true face." (2)

The idolaters can even kill the body of the Disciples (and we Christians of today), but NEVER they can kill the Soul !!!, because it belongs to God and He alone is able to take it back.
My Brothers and Sisters in Christ, let us not be afraid to proclaim Jesus to the world and to bear witness in the social environment in which we find ourselves. In the right time, we will reap health, peace, joy in our hearts.

Let all your family descend upon you, the Blessing of the all loving and rich God in Mercy, He who is Father + Son + and Holy Spirit. Amen!
