GOSPEL ACCORDING LUCAS- (Lk 16.19 to 31)
-------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------
"At that time Jesus said to the Pharisees:" There was a rich man who dressed with fine and elegant clothes and made splendid parties every day.
A poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, was on the ground, to the rich door. He wanted to satisfy his hunger with the scraps that fell from the rich man's table. And besides, came the dogs lick his wounds.
When the poor man died, the angels carried him to Abraham together. also died the rich and was buried.
In the region of the dead, in the midst of torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus at his side.
Then he shouted, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me! Send Lazarus dip the tip of his finger to cool my tongue, because I suffer a lot in these flames. '
But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that you received your good things in life and Lazarus, in turn evil. Now, however, he finds solace here and you are tormented. And besides, there is a great gulf between us; as much as one wished, could not pass from here to you, and neither could then cross to us. '
Rich insisted: 'Father, I beg you, send Lazarus to my father's house, because I have five brothers. Manda warn them, lest they may come to this place of torment. '
But Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the prophets, that listen!'
The rich man said: 'No, Father Abraham, but if one of the dead goes to them, will surely become'.
But Abraham said, 'If you do not listen to Moses or the prophets, they will not believe even if someone should rise from the dead.( 1 )
A. BIGCUORE´S REFLECTION. This parable is known as the parable of the Rich and the Poor. Lazarus represented the poor. Jesus, as always arguing with the Pharisees. The Master tells them the parable of the Rich who dressed in fine clothes and gave feast every day.
Lazarus, with wounds in the legs that were licking dogs, was the rich man's door, hoping that some crumb to give him. For, says the parable of Lazarus dies and is taken to heaven by angels. Soon after also die rich.
Lazarus gets consolation in heaven and the rich burn in hell oven.
Rich calls the Father Abraham to free the hellish torments. To which Abraham replies that he (rich) received life in comfort while Lazarus went through the hardships of poverty and could not make the intercommunication with the beyond.
We can infer from the text that wealth is a good thing, but the human being can not be enslaved by it. Goods must be a means for him to live with dignity. Wealth built with sweat and tears, it is meritorious. The achieved by unlawful means, shall apply the rigor of the laws.
But when, as in the case above, the reckless rich, enjoyed all his life and did not think to worship spirituality at the end of life gathered what had happened planted throughout his life, having to leave all his possessions on earth ( even because coffin has no drawers!) to their heirs, perhaps even helped to build it.
Jesus, in his whole career for this world, made it clear that we are here in passing. The real life, is beyond the material. He taught us to love God above all and your neighbor as yourself. Summarizes the Law and the Prophets. He did not condemn the wealth, but the misuse of it.
A happy and holy Sunday to all! blessings of health, peace, prosperity, harmony and joy in their hearts! Peace and good!
